Lifu a buddy of mine since college has finally took the first step among the peers of our age to settle down in life. We decided to take a couple of shots down at the beach on a public holiday, oh man there were LOTS of people there…nonetheless we had some fun running and jumping around. I wish you and Sophia all the best in the coming future.

WPPM 2011 conference is around the corner and this year I was given the opportunity to be one of the speaker for the 1st – Class, beginners section. WPPM is an organization where photographers are united under one roof, helping each other to raise the standards of the industry. This does not mean that you who are not labeled as “professionals” are not allowed to join and grow along with us. I would like to give an opportunity to those who are avid photographers and those who are new and would like to excel in photography a chance to experience what I experience last year.

What do you get when one photography enthusiast meets another? A smashing running in entrance of 2 shutter bug. I literally mean running in. Linda and Ben are both photography enthusiast and their love story and meetings started from there. It’s really nice to have found your better half having the same interest with you and to see their self taken couple shots was just really heart melting.

To capture Linda and Ben’s wedding was a great honour and also a great stress to me. To capture another photographers image always seem to be more pressuring somehow. To be selected as their photographer choice out of the many others they knew was definitely a great honour, thanks Linda and Ben again for entrusting me with your blessed occasion.

This was another Pre-wedding shoot which I did with the Sunshine girl Jenny Sun, It was initially raining on that day and I guess being with the goddess of sunlight rain would just stop when needed to. I really enjoyed this session with Jenny, as it was something new to me at that time and I learnt a lot from doing beach shots Thanks again Jenny. Anyways here are the results

Hola! This was one of the Pre-wedding that I wanted to post sometime back but just didn’t manage to find a time to do so. I assisted the awesome powsome Jenny Sun on this assignment and these were some of the shots I got. It was my very first assisting job with Jenny and I had loads of fun and learned a lot from her. Thanks again Jenny

Tjin and Christine were nice and friendly too! And for the first time I’ve shot a pre-wedding in one of the penthouse in Hartamas, really love the place and the view. Here are the shots!

Here’s another few more shots of Shennie and Chu King pre-wedding shots. It was a really fun pre-wedding shoot as I get to test out a new camera for Canon Malaysia and at the same time stay in a really cool colonial design bungalow. It’s also my first time shooting a pre-wedding from day till night, what an experience. Thanks to Jack Tan as well for the invitation

The weather was pleasingly on our side, since the early 7AM which was also really cold! Later came the sun but with the cool weather we barely felt anything.

Wow…a year has pass, and looking back at how I started everything does still seem to be fresh in my mind. I’m trying to recall what really happened this year as there’s really a lot of things that went up and down. The year started with me losing a love one, I must admit it is hard to do wedding photography when your heart is all broken. Anyways Life goes on and I was in Hyderabad, India for the whole month of February and spending my Chinese new year working. I was constantly thinking of my plans when I’m back in KL, what would I do, how would I move on and progress further in photography. I guess I was in luck when more opportunities came after I got back and empty months got filled at the end of the day.

This year I got to work with even more talented and well known photographers in the industry. I would like to thank Patrick Low from Exes Studio, for giving me tons of opportunity to work with you, Jon Low for the awesome mentoring and opportunity to work and travel and being a great friend. Louis pang, it was really awesome to work with you and I’ve definitely learned a lot not on only from photography but in other aspects, thanks again for entrusting me with the responsibility given to me. Asther Lau thanks so much for being there and giving advises and most of all being a genuine friend, it was fun working with you in Seremban and looking forward to many more opportunity next year. Jenny sun, what more can I say, you’ve been an icon and inspiration to me, I would not have expected that I would get to work with you, thanks so much for trusting me and having me assist you. You’ve been there to advise and educate me before I took up photography seriously and I thank you for sharing your experiences with me, hopefully an opportunity to work with you will come again.

Jim Liaw, though I’ve not work with you, but having you spend your time mentoring me and preparing for the MPA was really appreciated. To have you give up your time to educate and help the industry is really a blessing, thank you once again. Peter Tan thanks for all the advises and the opportunity to work with you. Andrew Chow though I’ve not work with you but thanks a lot for being a friend and passing on opportunity to me, really appreciate it bro. Kenneth Tan from Fabulous Chapter thanks a lot for letting me assist you and guiding me, working with you was definitely fun and enlightening. Zach Chin and Amelyn I’m not sure if I should say I was working with you or hanging out..it certainly didn’t felt like work and more like hanging out and having fun, plus getting paid at the same time. Thank you so much for having me around and looking forward to the next time we work together again…probably on another 31st of the month? Anna Rinna though we work together only once but it was a pleasure and honor to work with you, looking forward to more opportunities next year.

If you guys remember last year I mention that I would love to reach a goal which is to be a qualified member of MPA (Masters Photographer Association) UK, guess what? I actually made it…so I guess that’s really good news..to me at least Not only that but I’m also certified by WPPM (Wedding and Portrait Photographer Malaysia) as a Professional Photographer. So that’s 2 association in a year…I totally didn’t see that coming.

Before I end, I would love to thank the special brides and grooms who really really gave me a good time shooting your wedding, your hospitality and treatment has really touched my heart. Jeremy and Sherlene, Stephanie and Sidney, Chu Kin and Shennie, Dr Ser Hon and Joanne, Irwan and Jenny and lastly Shee Na and Tze Jiun thank you so much for having me as the 2nd photographer and it’s been a pleasure and honor to be a part of you most memorable day.

Next year will be a new challenge, am looking forward to reach out further in photography, maybe join some competitions and see where I could go from there onwards. Oh yea, just to let you guys in some new…Benjamin Lim Photography is an official business now, so I guess you could say I’ve turn pro?

To end things, I would love to thank everyone in my life who has been there and helped me through my thick and thin and sorry if I’ve offended anyone this year. Will strive to be a better person but you have to let me know my mistakes and weakness. Once again have a great new year and will next year be a better year for all of us.

Time flies and it seems like just last year I was doing a Christmas theme shoot but no, it was intact two years ago. Much has happened and I believe I’ve grown a lot in terms of perception and ideas. This year I decided to do something simple and at the same time challenging. Baby Zachary who I’ve shot before when he was 6-8 weeks old is now about 8 months old. He’s definitely got bigger and cuter at the same time. It’s really been a challenge to shoot babies as they will never really do what you want them to.

It’s been a long while since I’ve posted my wedding shots and just to keep the world up to date…I’ve been doing a lot 2nd shooting for the past year, I occasionally still do my own jobs but mostly I’m the 2nd photographer. I would be posting some shots later to share with you guys.

Just this month, Krish and Kanages had their engagement and I was given the honor to help record their moment. Here are some of the shots.

We’re reached the last part of my review with the Canon EOS 60D. In this last test I took the 60D for an actual assignment, which is a Pre-Wedding shoot. We shot from really early in the morning till late night when the moon was shining down on us, and with that I guess I could say I’ve tested this camera with almost all sort of lighting condition.

Below are shots done at night and the shot below is done with light painting technique.

Another light painting technique done out door with Jack Tan, this shot was really fun and different, the outside of this house was almost pitch black and it took 2 of us to light up the house and the bride and groom.

To sum things up, is the Canon EOS 60D good enough for professionals? Well, yes and why not? These pictures are taken and to be presented to the couple Chu Kin and Shennie. I’ve been reading around forums and noticed that most people would say the built and quality of the camera isn’t good enough. My thought and question back is…why does that matter? I’ve not been required to throw my camera on the ground or at someone and even if I was…I wouldn’t.

The image quality matters most when it comes to selecting a camera and this 60D has done its part. It’s giving out professional like pictures with a big bang for bucks price. The high iso performance is awesome and the noise is subtle and reasonable enough. Focusing is definitely better then the 5D mark II which I hope canon would do something bout it when the mark 3 comes out.
