Mid Valley Fashion show

September 22, 2008

Was at Mid Valley today with some photographers for this fashion show with a very unique runway. The event started at 12pm and will be goin on till about 6pm. I was there only for the last 2 session which was from Bonia and T-joue.

The lightings were bad for this 1 as the spotlight kept moving around and the models didn’t really stop long enough when they are posing. Plus there wasn’t really enough lightings and I had no external flash, relying on the body flash alone was quite a challenge. It’s a good training for me though, anyways I tried to make or at least think that the shadows would be a good composition for the picture…maybe some feedback on it would help me.

Now for people who says I only take picture of girls…you are sooo wrong now

most of the picture didn’t really turn out right. I’m considering a 3rd party flash as an alternative now. Seems like I’m needing a lot of flash in my pictures. Will have to do some money calculating now…sigh.

It was a good shot overall though she was a bit nervous or looking not too natural but as we went on she got more comfortable. Pretty good as it’s her first shoot as well. Thanks Jesslyn.

Raya and Fab Asia Fashion Show

September 19, 2008

So after the Tak Nak Chimping, I dropped by Pyramid for a while and there was 2 fashion shows going on right one after the other. The first was some Raya thing, which was ok besides the horrible backdrop.

lastly…the harajuku girls..
fab_asia0001

not sure what was suppose to be on but I think the whole idea of the fashion show being held in Asia Avenue is because they had some harajuku costume competition..I wasn’t bothered, was there only for the model and then I ran off.

*note: I did not do any adjustment in contrast or saturation or any post processing, Hows the picture in your screen? Is the brightness good enough?

Last Saturday Shutter Asia forum a competition called Tak Nak Chimping. This competition has been going on in Penang most of the time and this is the 1st time it’s in KL and will be held in Lake Gardens. Basically the rules of the competition are;

1. No chimping (or reviewing) your shots. LCD screen must be covered.
2. Maximum of 36 shots. No deletion.
3. Only one prime lens allowed. Zoom lens must be fixed at certain focal length.
4. No flash allowed.
5. Tripod is allowed.

addition to that, all pictures has to be taken in Manual mode and fixed ISO. I thin, the idea of the competition is to train photographers to be more confident with their shots and not always “chimp” after taking their shots. Yes this is the digital age but maybe because it is..most of use are snapping 1 shot and then looking again then snapping again. This action is called “chimping”. If you look at how chimpanzee act when they have something in their hands it pretty much looks like how a photographer is uuuhhhh-ing and ahhhh-ing at his pictures after a shot.

The theme for the day was “garden’s party” which I had no idea how to interprete it..besides thinking anything that comes in a bunch could be a party. A party of flowers? a party of ants? though grammatically its not right. But at the end, I just snapped anything I felt was nice

very very BIG hibiscus

taknakchimp01_kl0007
goose having a party?

taknakchimp01_kl0006
birds party?

as you can see there wasn’t much to shoot..so I submitted this picture as my chosen one
taknakchimp01_kl0008
reason I chose this picture is because it shows that there was something that happened here…but it’s over..or you could say theres a party and in parties there would sure to be lots of trash, especially drinks.

*note: All pictures above are not edited in any sort of manner, No adjustment in contrast, saturation or even change of picture style. Basically it’s what you get from the camera.

and after the competition…I snapped this girl, I somehow like the feeling of it. So I edited it a little, nice?

Lomography attempt

September 12, 2008

Been watching people do lomo effect with photoshop and also some using their lomo camera. I thought I give it a try as well. To start off I took one of Nicole’s picture which didn’t turn out too well and did some editing, to my suprise I kinda like it. Though the facial expression isn’t what most photographers want but somehow with the color tone and contrast settings, I like it! haha that’s all I have to say, its just my preference.

Oh yea..for those who are asking whats lomo?

lomography is the art of casual, snapshot photography using low-fidelity cameras. Unconventional characteristics such as over-saturated colors, off-kilter exposure, blurring, distortion and alternative film processing are often considered part of the “Lomographic Technique.”

nicole_mok_lomo01

here’s a preview on who’s gonna have a shoot soon..
Vivian_Gan_lomo01

Her name is Vivian Gan…if you did search my Cheer 20008 pictures on flickr you might spot her :)

the 10 Golden Rules of Lomography,
1. Take your Lomo everywhere you go
2. Use it anytime - day and night
3. Lomography is not an interference with your life but a part of it
4. Shoot from your hip
5. Approach the object of your lomographic desire as close as possible
6. Don’t think
7. Be fast
8. You don’t have to know beforehand what you captured on film
9. afterwards either
10. ignore all the golden rules

if you ask me..lomography is the art of taking bad pictures which turns out good due to the lack of thinking and I guess it brings out the artistic side of the picture. Having to ignore composition and all the other techniques in photography makes this “lomography” a world of its own. Pictures may look mundane and over saturated or distorted..but hey.thats how its suppose to be :)

Here’s a video on lomography.

Upcoming shooting, Cheryl Chee

September 4, 2008

Joining photo shoots is nice, but paying for them really sucks, especially when the model you paid for could not pose. So I made my own effort to find fresh faces to see if they are interested or need to build up a portfolio for themselves. So let me introduce Cheryl Chee, a sweet girl who gonna up my model for 1 of my upcoming shoots. I met Cheryl in Starbucks 1U to know a little more bout herself and also what she expect from the shooting, I would say the meeting went fine would be looking forward to a session with her when she is free.

CherylChee06
note: I made her pose this way, trying to make it look like one of those friendster profile pictures, haha

CherylChee05

So if any one who’s reading this lame sad and un-updated blog and is interested or have friends who are interested in being a model/want to have a picture of themselves taken, do let me know. Write to me by click on the Contact Me at the side panel.

I would be happy to do a free shot and give you a CD in return. But if you’re asking for a wage, I’m sorry…you would to have to be at a professional level in order for me to pay to take pictures of you.
