I’m back from boot camp! Haha…it really feels weird calling it boot camp but in a way it’s somehow like that. I would say it was really fun and I had a good time there, though I had to stay up late abit to do some editing.
If you were following me on twitter, a month or two back then I said I was running dry on my shots and pretty much not feeling the mojo being there anymore. I guess god has his eyes on me…Redninja.tv brought down Wiki Lee who’s also the founder of Foto Expression. Somehow during camp my mojo came back and my mind has been refreshed once again.
Camp wasn’t all talk and no action, we were given individual task and also group task. The individual task was more like a pre-wedding shoot with an actual couple. I got to work with Rachel and Ser Young which were awesome and cool to work with. Here are the 5 pictures that we were required to submit.
and I selected this picture as my fav which got my 4th spot.
Thank you Canon Malaysia for sponsoring the prizes. I got a lens pen to clean my lens.
The top 3 winners got themself a mini 5D mark2 which is soooo cute!
The group project was to come up with a slide show that would show the personality of our group members and this is what we came up with. Out of our expectation we actually manage to get first place. I bet the judges had a hard time figuring out which would they picked as the other groups work were awesome as well.
group members were : Andrew Chow, Teng Wei, Jonathan Tan and ofcourse yours truely Benjamin Lim. All shots were an equal contribution of all members.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jon Low from Jon Low Studios for his mentoring and guidance. Not to forget Wiki himself and his wife Ilona for their superb personal attention.
Lastly all the beautiful pictures wouldn’t be anything if it wasn’t for the marlevous bride and groom, Rachel and Ser Young. Thank you so much for being our models and being commanded by us..haha. Thank you as well Shinny Ong for your awesome skills in make up and hair making the bride and groom look their best. Lastly to Pretty in White for the wonderful looking dresses.
So there been some “Got mojo?” tweets happening around and if you’re still wondering what is it…check out Red Ninja. There’s gonna be a day seminar on the 23rd April and a 2 days 1 night camp over the weekend of the 24th and 25th April.

I missed Holi by a day in India, came back 1 day before Holi festival, so you may be wondering what on earth is this Holi thing…well I was too when I first heard it. Holi is actually known as the Festival of Colors, think of it as the colorful version Songkran (Water festival in Thailand). Holi is somewhat similar to it just that they start with some colored powder throwing and then later proceed to water fights. Read more bout it here.
Holi falls on a Monday 1st March 2010, and because it’s not a public holiday here in Kuala Lumpur, the local community usually celebrates it the coming weekend which was on the 7th in this case. Holi in India is massive…streets and people would be covered in colors but in KL things are slightly smaller scale. Lots of music and dancing and of course..water splashing. Here are some of my Favorite takes from the event.
Over the week I signed up for a photography conference called Charge Up, organize by live wire media. It’s a 4 day conference but due to some unforeseen issues I only manage to attend the 2 days, the 3rd day we were given as task/project and would work in a group to come up with a montage for certain NGO/Ministry. Sadly I wasn’t able to join the rest of my new friends there and since I was home all night, I decided to make this lil montage. Please don’t take this montage seriously as it’s meant to be a joke. Just to have some fun…since I missed the event.
Enjoy the montage yea!
A friend invited me to her birthday party last weekend. She celebrated her birthday earlier as her birthday fell on a weekday, so I have the honor of being the “photographer” for the joyful occasion. I thought it would be nice if I could give her a little gift by compiling some shots in to a photo montage.
The party was held in 7atenine which was the same building as Ascott Kuala Lumpur. It was my first time there and infact was my first time hearing of the place. Food was pretty alright and the place was a nice chill out spot.
Canon Malaysia had a sports photography workshop last weekend, Sunday. The talked was held in Sepang and conducted by Ruddie Khaw. Since I’ve not shot in Sepang before and there was a workshop which would give me a chance to walk down the pits…so why not?
The weather was awesome that day, hot and cloudy at certain areas.
Joshua here giving us some briefing before we head out.
We then got to go to the pits..which was really cool..I’ve not been there before..so yea..it’s cool for me
Race about to start…
From the drivers face..well not really face, but their eyes you can see them all concentrating and focusing on the race…must be real hard to stay focus with the heat.
so the race starts…
rubber burns…rawr!
cars almost flipping over
after the race there were some happy faces…
and not so happy ones…
I love this shot somehow…it does tell a story on what happens after the race
I know this is a photography blog but I’m doing this for the sake of these beautiful pups which need a home. There’s this Cutie Pet Fair in Central Park in Bandar Utama (just beside 1 Utama) and there are some dog associations there which are offering pet adoptions. One of them is Malaysia Dogs Deserve Better and House of Happy Furmily. These 2 association or group may not be well known and to be honest even I am not aware of them till recently. I’m doing them a favor as I feel these dogs deserve a hand from us animal lovers and to play our small parts lets try to adopt or at least donate a few ringgit to them.
Details are on this poster, do drop by if you have some free time to check out the pet adoption
These dogs can be adopted with a low fee of RM50.00, so do help out in providing these lovable darlings a home and I’m sure they will be faithful and thankful to your deeds.
This cute buddy here had some injuries on his back, now that he is healed he is a pretty playful and active young chap, pay him a visit tomorrow.
April here is suffering from some heart issues, her medical fee is around RM100.00 ++ per month, If you happen to drop by please do donate something to House of Happy Furmily. One thing I like bout them is they do not set a limit or minimum requirement to the donation..so do your part and have some sympathy to these poor sick dogs and donate as much as you can
Here’s some pictures that I took that night. The lightings inside were just awesome and I didn’t even need a flash when shooting the interior. The organizers has defiantely done a good job for this event and from the feedbacks I’ve been hearing so far…no complains, everyone was happy and they felt it was really well organized.

and some crowds, I’ll be posting less this time as I don’t know who I’m posting most of the time.
This Year I’m lucky enough to get the official photographer’s pass for this event. I must say I do enjoy this event as it quite well organize and the show gets better, and as bonus I get to meet local celebs and international ones at the same time. Being just a feet or more away from them and having no bouncers to stop me from talking to them, it’s a rare importunity to be in this position.
So I thought I do something a lil different this time and instead of just posting up pictures of people I don’t know I’ll post up a video on what I do or see on that day. I hope you enjoy the video.
Over the weekend I attended ShootFest which was an unconference meetup with photography enthusiast. Basically there were talks and discussion and educational stuff on photography related issues (in this case the talks were more on weddings). If you want more information on ShootFest just visit their site at http://shootfest.org/.
To be honest this has been the most educational and fun weekend I’ve had with other photographers. I would say I’ve learn alot and also hopefully managed to share some of my knowledge with other people. The environment was very er…how to say, hmm educational?and at the same time motivational? People were participating and asking and asnwering questions which you don’t normally get when there’s a talk/seminar like thing happening. So this kept the spirit up I guess.
Besides that I think the best part is that people were willing to share their thoughts, techniques, methods and workflow of their work. It’s definately very interesting to see how professionals do their work and it does help to improve yours or atleast it has helped me identified my flaw in my workflow.
And these are some picture’s from the crazy booth, now I’m thinking I should have done one as well..haha
lastly my fav shot of all
*All pictures above are not taken by me but taken from the shootfest site. Credits to the photographers and Zach Chin who did the crazy booth shots
For more detailed write up Mark Leo has some pretty good coverage on it for Day 1 and Day 2. Feel free to drop by his blog.
I took part in the Karaoke Power Point which is basically a game of BS (Bull Shit), you’re given a set of slides to present which you’ve not seen before and you are suppose to present it like you know it.
mine was to convince people that advertising is dead…oh dear..
Thanks mark for the picture best so far I’ve seen of my self. I know i need a hair cut badly :S
With this I end my little post on shootfest, I’m really looking forward to the next shootfest which could be ShootFest 002 : The World, (travel photography) see you guys again then!
