I missed Holi by a day in India, came back 1 day before Holi festival, so you may be wondering what on earth is this Holi thing…well I was too when I first heard it. Holi is actually known as the Festival of Colors, think of it as the colorful version Songkran (Water festival in Thailand). Holi is somewhat similar to it just that they start with some colored powder throwing and then later proceed to water fights. Read more bout it here.
Holi falls on a Monday 1st March 2010, and because it’s not a public holiday here in Kuala Lumpur, the local community usually celebrates it the coming weekend which was on the 7th in this case. Holi in India is massive…streets and people would be covered in colors but in KL things are slightly smaller scale. Lots of music and dancing and of course..water splashing. Here are some of my Favorite takes from the event.
Over the week I signed up for a photography conference called Charge Up, organize by live wire media. It’s a 4 day conference but due to some unforeseen issues I only manage to attend the 2 days, the 3rd day we were given as task/project and would work in a group to come up with a montage for certain NGO/Ministry. Sadly I wasn’t able to join the rest of my new friends there and since I was home all night, I decided to make this lil montage. Please don’t take this montage seriously as it’s meant to be a joke. Just to have some fun…since I missed the event.
Enjoy the montage yea!
I know this is a photography blog but I’m doing this for the sake of these beautiful pups which need a home. There’s this Cutie Pet Fair in Central Park in Bandar Utama (just beside 1 Utama) and there are some dog associations there which are offering pet adoptions. One of them is Malaysia Dogs Deserve Better and House of Happy Furmily. These 2 association or group may not be well known and to be honest even I am not aware of them till recently. I’m doing them a favor as I feel these dogs deserve a hand from us animal lovers and to play our small parts lets try to adopt or at least donate a few ringgit to them.
Details are on this poster, do drop by if you have some free time to check out the pet adoption
These dogs can be adopted with a low fee of RM50.00, so do help out in providing these lovable darlings a home and I’m sure they will be faithful and thankful to your deeds.
This cute buddy here had some injuries on his back, now that he is healed he is a pretty playful and active young chap, pay him a visit tomorrow.
April here is suffering from some heart issues, her medical fee is around RM100.00 ++ per month, If you happen to drop by please do donate something to House of Happy Furmily. One thing I like bout them is they do not set a limit or minimum requirement to the donation..so do your part and have some sympathy to these poor sick dogs and donate as much as you can
Somehow I must have left this out, here some individual shots of Inverted Coma. Here’s their site address again www.inverted-coma.com. For those that haven’t heard of these guys…I would recommend that you drop by their site or facebook or myspace and take a listen to their tracks, I love em, not sure whats their genre to be honest but if you’re one of those who love the 90’s kind of music…I guess this is the band you would love too.
Here we have David on Vocals
Jason on Lead guitars
Raymond on rhythm
Julian on bass
and last group shot which was more a spontaneous shot when the guys were fooling around
So about 2 weeks back I made an investment in getting a new notebook. It’s been some time since my last upgrade and I’ve decided to try out Apple, or some would refer it as Macintosh. There were several reason that made me consider this slight “jump” from a windows environment to a mac. One was it was said and claimed to be more stable and somewhat virus free. The mac does have its’ own virus but they don’t have that many compared to windows. But what really attracted me the most was when I was previewing the new OS X - Snow Leopard (version 10.6) which fascinated me as I saw things working fast and all.
So I’m sure you’ll be asking now..so what does this have to do with photography? Well…to share how I did my assignment with almost 0 knowledge on how things work on a mac..I manage to install programs and deliver my slides/pictures and present my work to my client in this a matter of days after buying the mac.
Oh I also forgot to mention that I went to the mac for 1 very important reason…the “wholesome” factor. In macs you pretty much can do most of your stuff from right out of the box. If you purchase one now you get Ilife which has idvd, imovie, iphoto, garage band and iweb. I’ve seen garage band in action and I do write some songs on my own last time..it’s really impressive with how easy it is to use. Idvd is also awesome for making dvd and it doesn’t take long. Along side with the other application it really makes the mac a complete multimedia machine for those who wants to create simple videos, blogs, web pages and almost everything related to media.
There’s of course some bad points which i find it really annoying, the wireless device isn’t very strong. I’m getting constant disconnection at my home in certain areas. But overall it has been a good experience and now I see why the influence of mac is getting stronger among others.
For those who wish to get themselves a macbook pro for photography usage. I would say the minimal 2 GB ram isn’t really enough if you’re concern with speed. I think moving to 4GB would be better as I run lightroom 2.5 and also photoshop cs4.
Oh oh before I forget, you know notebook these days don’t give you a windows cd or dvd when you buy a new one now? Usually they come with a recovery disc that has some bundled junk in them. I’ve tested some brands lately, Toshiba, Acer, HP and IBM’s and I must say I don’t fancy any of them anymore. Reason to this is because most of the time they take too long just to reinstall a simple operating system, and what made me furious the other day was Acer recovery disc had the wrong drivers loaded on to them! So I’m forced to redownload the drivers from the internet..so what if I have not internet?
Mac hasn’t gave me this problem so far and mine doesn’t come with a recovery disc. I hope they maintain this as this would make me a life long supporter if they do.
Ok probably enough promotion here and here some slick looking pictures taken from my bedroom.
To sum it up, it’s been a good experience so far being able to do most stuff on my mac without worrying about installing, finding and knowing which programs to work with which. Most programs are able to work with each other so it’s good and best of all things are made simple, so anyone can just pick up and produce professional looking work.
With this I end my sales pitch, I wonder if apple will send me some new stuff to test *hint hint*
This weekend has been awesomely great! is there such a word “awsomely”? Friday was I attended a workshop conducted by Jerry Ghionis which was superb! An all day of fun and great time with other great photographers and the next day was Richard Kang and Loo Wan Chin’s wedding, I would like to take this opportunity again to thank them so much for entrusting me with this task of capturing one of their life time biggest event.
I have to admit they made my day well worth it and brushed away all my tiredness when I heard their applaud and Richard showing me his thumbs up, thank you again Richard and I’m glad I manage to immortalize your precious moments not only with you wife but with your buddies and family. So…enjoy the show.
It was a lovely Saturday Morning that we decided to have this lovely shot taken in a park. Shi Ley whos now 7 months pregnant is about to be a mother to her first born. This was my first maternity shot and it was a blast, though it wasn’t as long as the other shots I’ve done, Shi Ley and Jeffrey got comfortable with the camera very fast and was a breeze for me to just go on with what I do best.
Had a session with these guys officially not too long ago. Though it’s been mention and talked about, it has finally came to action. We’ve made a move and finally did our 1st official photo session at a studio. Inverted Coma isn’t a new band but instead has been around for quite some time now, feel free to check them out at www.inverted-coma.com or search them at facebook.
They also took some behind the scene shots while I was at work but the pictures are on their facebook fan page. Inverted Coma consists of David (Singer), Jason (Lead guitar), Raymond (Keyboard/Guitar), Julian (Bass) and their new drummer Dillon.
So here’s some of the group shots that I’ve chosen.
Here’s some pictures that I took that night. The lightings inside were just awesome and I didn’t even need a flash when shooting the interior. The organizers has defiantely done a good job for this event and from the feedbacks I’ve been hearing so far…no complains, everyone was happy and they felt it was really well organized.

and some crowds, I’ll be posting less this time as I don’t know who I’m posting most of the time.
This Year I’m lucky enough to get the official photographer’s pass for this event. I must say I do enjoy this event as it quite well organize and the show gets better, and as bonus I get to meet local celebs and international ones at the same time. Being just a feet or more away from them and having no bouncers to stop me from talking to them, it’s a rare importunity to be in this position.
So I thought I do something a lil different this time and instead of just posting up pictures of people I don’t know I’ll post up a video on what I do or see on that day. I hope you enjoy the video.
