Shennie and Chu King Pre-Wedding | Malaysia Wedding & Portrait Photographer

May 24, 2011

Here’s another few more shots of Shennie and Chu King pre-wedding shots. It was a really fun pre-wedding shoot as I get to test out a new camera for Canon Malaysia and at the same time stay in a really cool colonial design bungalow. It’s also my first time shooting a pre-wedding from day till night, what an experience. Thanks to Jack Tan as well for the invitation 🙂

The weather was pleasingly on our side, since the early 7AM which was also really cold! Later came the sun but with the cool weather we barely felt anything.

and lastly one of the few shots we did at night in total darkness, this shot was done with one camera shot…no photoshop 🙂

Discovering the Apple

October 15, 2009

mbp01

So about 2 weeks back I made an investment in getting a new notebook. It’s been some time since my last upgrade and I’ve decided to try out Apple, or some would refer it as Macintosh. There were several reason that made me consider this slight “jump” from a windows environment to a mac. One was it was said and claimed to be more stable and somewhat virus free. The mac does have its’ own virus but they don’t have that many compared to windows. But what really attracted me the most was when I was previewing the new OS X – Snow Leopard (version 10.6) which fascinated me as I saw things working fast and all.

So I’m sure you’ll be asking now..so what does this have to do with photography? Well…to share how I did my assignment with almost 0 knowledge on how things work on a mac..I manage to install programs and deliver my slides/pictures and present my work to my client in this a matter of days after buying the mac.

Oh I also forgot to mention that I went to the mac for 1 very important reason…the “wholesome” factor. In macs you pretty much can do most of your stuff from right out of the box. If you purchase one now you get Ilife which has idvd, imovie, iphoto, garage band and iweb. I’ve seen garage band in action and I do write some songs on my own last time..it’s really impressive with how easy it is to use. Idvd is also awesome for making dvd and it doesn’t take long. Along side with the other application it really makes the mac a complete multimedia machine for those who wants to create simple videos, blogs, web pages and almost everything related to media.

There’s of course some bad points which i find it really annoying, the wireless device isn’t very strong. I’m getting constant disconnection at my home in certain areas. But overall it has been a good experience and now I see why the influence of mac is getting stronger among others.

For those who wish to get themselves a macbook pro for photography usage. I would say the minimal 2 GB ram isn’t really enough if you’re concern with speed. I think moving to 4GB would be better as I run lightroom 2.5 and also photoshop cs4.

Oh oh before I forget, you know notebook these days don’t give you a windows cd or dvd when you buy a new one now? Usually they come with a recovery disc that has some bundled junk in them. I’ve tested some brands lately, Toshiba, Acer, HP and IBM’s and I must say I don’t fancy any of them anymore. Reason to this is because most of the time they take too long just to reinstall a simple operating system, and what made me furious the other day was Acer recovery disc had the wrong drivers loaded on to them! So I’m forced to redownload the drivers from the internet..so what if I have not internet?

Mac hasn’t gave me this problem so far and mine doesn’t come with a recovery disc. I hope they maintain this as this would make me a life long supporter if they do.

Ok probably enough promotion here and here some slick looking pictures taken from my bedroom.

To sum it up, it’s been a good experience so far being able to do most stuff on my mac without worrying about installing, finding and knowing which programs to work with which. Most programs are able to work with each other so it’s good and best of all things are made simple, so anyone can just pick up and produce professional looking work.

With this I end my sales pitch, I wonder if apple will send me some new stuff to test *hint hint*

ShootFest 001 : The Wedding

June 9, 2009

Over the weekend I attended ShootFest which was an unconference meetup with photography enthusiast. Basically there were talks and discussion and educational stuff on photography related issues (in this case the talks were more on weddings). If you want more information on ShootFest just visit their site at http://shootfest.org/.

To be honest this has been the most educational and fun weekend I’ve had with other photographers. I would say I’ve learn alot and also hopefully managed to share some of my knowledge with other people.  The environment was very er…how to say, hmm educational?and at the same time motivational? People were participating and asking and asnwering questions which you don’t normally get when there’s a talk/seminar like thing happening. So this kept the spirit up I guess.

Besides that I think the best part is that people were willing to share their thoughts, techniques, methods and workflow of their work. It’s definately very interesting to see how professionals do their work and it does help to improve yours or atleast it has helped me identified my flaw in my workflow.

Some of the professional speakers were Grace Tan, Jenny Sun, Jon Low, Fiona Lim, Zach Chin and many more, you can check out the schedule here

so here’s some of the pictures :

For more detailed write up Mark Leo has some pretty good coverage on it for Day 1 and Day 2. Feel free to drop by his blog.

I took part in the Karaoke Power Point which is basically a game of BS (Bull Shit), you’re given a set of slides to present which you’ve not seen before and you are suppose to present it like you know it.

mine was to convince people that advertising is dead…oh dear..

With this I end my little post on shootfest, I’m really looking forward to the next shootfest which could be ShootFest 002 : The World, (travel photography) see you guys again then!
